ADMISSION RULES
Specialization - "Actor of musical theatre"
Duration of studies: 4 years
Beginning of studies: September 1, 2022
The program is worked out in collaboration with The Moscow Theatre of Musical.
The artistic director of the course is Associate Professor of the Acting Department, artistic director and director of the Moscow Theatre of Musical Marina Aleksandrovna Shvydkaya. The musical director from the theatre is Maria Petrovna Galliardt.
Students of the course will fully master the acting program, and in close creative contact with the Moscow Musical Theater will study singing, stage movement, features of productions in the musical genre, musical disciplines necessary for further successful work in the musical theatre.
When recruiting, great attention to the musical and vocal abilities of applicants.
Please note that all auditions, entrance tests, exams and subsequent training are in the Russian language. For your own convenience the level of your proficiency in Russian should be high.
WHO CAN APPLY
Persons who have education of appropriate level, which is confirmed by a document issued by a foreign state. Such document should be translated into Russian and the translation should be notarized.
WHO CAN STUDY FOR FREE
Citizens of the Russian Federation, compatriots and foreign citizens according to the quota established by the Government of RF and according to the international agreements of RF in the sphere of science, culture and education.
To apply for an international quota, you must contact the Rossotrudnichestvo organization in your country of residence. Electronic submission of documents for participation in the competition for the quota is possible. For more information please visit http://rwp.agency/.
CONDITIONS OF ADMISSION
Stages of the admission process.
1. Fill out the questionnaire and provide links to video materials in the applicant’s Personal Account (Личный кабинет абитуриента). You can find full information about the Applicant’s Personal Account on the Russian version of the web-site.
2. Go through three qualifying rounds.
3. Go through main creative competition and a test of professional orientation.
4. Provide all necessary documents.
5. Pass exams on the Russian Language and Literature.
6. Go through an interview on Theatre History.

Before the start of the entrance tests, applicants MUST pass a video audition.
It will be possible to fill out the questionnaire and provide links to video materials in the applicant's Personal Account as soon as access to the applicant's Personal Account is opened in the beginning of April. The information will be posted on the website in this section.
Video recording requirements.
AT THE BEGINNING OF THE RECORDING, IT IS NECESSARY TO CLEARLY PRONOUNCE YOUR FIRST NAME AND YOUR LAST NAME, YOUR AGE, YOUR PLACE OF RESIDENCE. BEFORE RECITING PIECES OF LITERARY WORKS PLEASE CLEARLY PRONOUNCE THE TITLE AND AUTHOR OF EACH WORK.
Content requirements.
1. The video material for the specialization "Actor of Musical Theatre" must contain two programs:
- music program: a drawl Russian folk song "a cappella" (one verse and chorus); Soviet song with accompaniment "minus" (one verse and chorus); classical singing (romance, number from a musical or operetta);
- literature program: a fable, one poem, one prose passage, a dance (optional).
2. The duration of the recording of the music program is about 6-10 minutes, the literature program is about 5-8 minutes.
3. The video should contain three perspectives: headshot, midshot and full-body shot.
The are no strict requirements for the clothes but the outfit of an applicant must meet the chosen material and situation. Girls should be wearing dresses or skirts and blouses, boys should be wearing shirts and trousers (no jacket).
The video can be recorded on a camera of a mobile phone.
THREE QUALIFYING ROUNDS/CREATIVE TESTS, MAIN CREATIVE COMPETITION AND INTERVIEW ON THE SUBJECT OF DRAMATURGY AND THEATRE.
Important: the schedule of the qualifying rounds/creative tests will appear on the web-site no later than June 1, 2022.
Creative tests for "Actors of Musical Theatre" or three qualifying rounds will include:
- music program: a drawl Russian folk song "a cappella" (one verse and chorus); Soviet song with accompaniment "minus" (one verse and chorus); classical singing (romance, number from a musical or operetta);
- reciting of 3-4 poems, a fable, 2-3 prose pieces of fiction;
- etudes: performing a few simple scenic etudes on themes which are offered by the members of the commission in the course of the test;
- checking of the technical abilities of the applicants: speaking, moving, singing (applicants should be ready to sing, dance and participate in special exercises on plasticity and should have appropriate clothes and shoes);
- interview on the subject of Dramaturgy and Theatre (test of professional orientation).
An interview (an oral test of professional orientation) is conducted to identify the applicant's knowledge of drama, literature, art history, theater history (in particular, history of the Vakhtangov Theatre).

DOCUMENTS
Applicants should provide their documents in person June 20 - July 7, 2022. All the documents should be translated into Russian and the translations should be notarized.

2. Document about the level of education (qualification) and the appendix to it (if it's applicable to the law of the state where the document was issued), legalized in the order established by the law of the Russian Federation or with apostle and notarial certification of translation. The procedure for the legalization and recognition of foreign education (recognition of educational documents) can be found on the website of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Glavexpertcenter http://www.nic.gov.ru/.
3. Confirmation from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation (if an applicant is willing to be enrolled according to the quota of the Government of RF).
4. A copy of visa allowing entrance to the Russian Federation.

EXAM ON THE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
Entrance test in Russian is a classroom written work which helps to identify the level of literacy, stylistic skills, creative abilities, degree of literary and general cultural development of the applicants. During the entrance test, erudition, culture of thinking,
the ability to formulate thoughts in writing, to build a complete text should be shown.
The entrance test in the Russian language reveals:
- the level of spelling and punctuation literacy;
- ability to apply the norms and rules of the Russian language in practice;
- proficiency in speech styles and types;
- understanding the phenomenon of the text and its parts.
The entrance test in the Russian language is conducted in accordance with the procedure and the approved schedule of entrance tests atthe Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute.
Students are given 3 hours (180 minutes) to complete the examination work
INTERVIEW ON HISTORY OF THEATRE
The entrance test in the discipline "History of Theater" is conducted orally at the Boris Shchukin Theater Institute. Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of the main stages of the history of Russian and foreign theatres, the processes of development of Acting, changes in its aesthetic and ethical principles over time, as well as knowledge of the main stages of the appearance and formation of the director's profession.

Citizens of the Republic of Belarus have the right to use the results of centralized testing conducted in the Republic of Belarus, passed by applicants in the current or previous calendar year (hereinafter - centralized testing). Results of centralized testing are accepted by the Institute as the results of the Exam on the Russian language and Literature.
Foreign citizens who are willing to enter the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute according to the quota established by the Government of RF and according to the international agreements of RF in the sphere of science, culture and education should only go through:
Video audition,
Three qualifying rounds/creative tests,
Main creative competition,
Test of professional orientation.
They don’t have to pass exams on the Russian language, Russian Literature and History of Theatre.
